Padi Kolam - Navaratri Special!

Namaste!
Today I am sharing a Padi Kolam, and decorated it with orange colour rangoli powder.... with dots and stripes.
This year I am sharing Padi Kolam for all 9 days, but for gollu or Navaratri you can draw dots or suzhi kolam.
Traditionally we use to draw white Padi Kolam, but now days we get all nine colours...so to make Padi Kolam more attractive I have used colour powder accordingly.
Today being 5th day (14Oct 2018) we need to worship 'Goddess Vaishnavi', neivedeyam 'Thair Sadam'  or 'Curd Rice', and today's rangoli colour is Orange.
Hope you all like it!

Padi Kolam - Navaratri Special!

Padi Kolam - Navaratri Special!
Today being 2nd day of Navaratri ( Oct 2018) I am sharing a simple yellow colour Padi Kolam.

During Navaratri in South India, we keep Golu or Gombe, which means dolls decorated in steps. We need to make steps with wooden plank or now days fibre steps are available.
You can keep steps in odd number such as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. In some houses it's a custom to keep 'Kalasam or Kalash' in the first step and other dolls of God's and Goddesses.
We need to draw Rangoli or Kolam with wet rice flour or normal fry rice flour.

We can draw Rangoli with dots or free hand rangoli.
I gendrally follow the colour with the day during Navaratri. Today it's yellow colour, Pooja to Goddess Kowmaari and neivedeyam pulliyogarai.
Hope you all like my kolam.

Padi Kolam

Padi Kolam
Today I'm sharing a Padi Kolam with wet rice flour. Kolam with wet rice flour is drawn for special functions or Pandigai in South India. Today being 'Purattasi Sani' or first Saturday of Purattasi month. Purattasi is the Tamil month ( mid September - mid October).

Purattasi Saturday Special
This month is very auspicious in vedic calendar. Special Pooja are observed on Saturday's for 'Lord Maha Vishu' or 'Perumal'.

The 'Purattasi Sani' / Saturday are considered Sacrosanct. In this month, specially fasting are observed for Perumal or Lord Balaji.

InTamilnadu, some families do special pooja's such as 'Samaradanai' and chant 'Vishu Saharsanamam'.
I hope you all like my Padi Kolam. Please do provide your comments.

Maa Kolam - Ganesha Chaturthi!

Maa Kolam - Vinayaka Chaturthi!

Padi Kolam with wet rice flour is drawn in South India for festivals, special occasions like Ganesha Chaturthi, Janmashtami, Aadi Velli, Thai Velli, Pongal, Diwali, Navaratri, House warming, Poonal Pandigai, Sathabishekam, Sashtithapoorthy etc.

For Wet rice flour, we need to soak raw rice in water for atleast 1 hr. Once it is soaked you need to grind it in Mixie.... remove water then grind...add little water and make a very fine paste. Transfer the paste from Mixie to a small container and add little water to make a thin consistency to draw Rangoli. You need to use very small cotton cloth or muslim cloth dip it in wet rice flour and start putting rangoli. After dipping into the wet rice flour you need to squize with your thumb figure and hold the wet cloth in middle finger and ring finger.
You can draw a freehand rangoli or Padi Kolam or dots rangoli with wet rice flour.
I am sharing a simple Padi Kolam for Vinayaka Chaturthi / Ganesha Chaturthi. One of the importance festival of Hindus is 'Ganesh Chaturthi'.
Hope you like it!
