Pookolam!

Onam is an important festival of Kerela (Indian State). Pookolam is a floral design which is drawn with fresh flowers, petals and leaves. This design seems to be like a floral carpet. It is drawn in a centre of entrance and decorated with lamps.

We generally draw Padi Kolam for Krishna Janmashtami with Krishnar Padam. This is a simple Padi Kolam which was drawn for last year's Janmashtami.

Namaste!
Today it's Rathasapthami and I am happy to share my pulli or dots kolam with some bright colours. 

Rathasapthami is one of the important festival celebrated by Hindus. Specially in South India we take bath early in the morning before Sun rises....we need to take bath with Erukum Elai or leaves...seven leaves with turmeric for women and Erukum leaves with raw rice for men. In this day Lord Suryanarayana or Sun God on his chariot with seven horses turns the direction from Southeast to Northeast.
We draw kolams, rangoli or even wet rice flour rangoli and pray to Sun God for well being and good health.

Pongal Pandigai is an important festival, which is celebrated for 4 days.
Day 1 - Bogi Pandigai
Day 2 - Pongal Pandigai
Day 3 - Mattu Pongal
Day 4 - Kanum Pongal

I have drawn a freehand padi kolam. As Pongal is a harvest festival, I have drawn pot or panai, sugarcane, Sun and diya to represent Pongal festival.
