Padi Kolam
Today being 'Naga Chaturthi' I am sharing a simple Padi Kolam, which can be drawn in small place or Chinna vasal.
Naga Chaturthi is a Hindu festival. On this day, married women do pooja for well being of their children. Similarly Naga Panchami is also celebrated for the well being for their brother's.
I have shared a Padi Kolam with wet rice flour and a touch of kaavi.

Padi Kolam - Aadi Special!
Today is Aadi Velli (Friday), I am happy to share my simple Padi Kolam with maa kolam / wet rice flour..... maa kolam is very auspicious to draw during festival's in South India. You can draw Padi Kolam or freehand designs with maa kolam and a touch of kaavi is must.
Maa kolam is prepared.... with rice soaked for atleast / minimum of 1 hr.... and grinded in mixie to form a very smooth paste.... you can add little water while grinding. While putting kolam or rangoli can add little water accordingly.

Padi Kolam - Aadi Pandigai Special!
Padi Kolam is one of the most important thing for any function in Iyer or Iyengar tradition. Today being a Aadi Velli, I am sharing a Maa Kolam (wet rice flour)... which is generally drawn for small functions such as Sumangali Prathanai, Aadi Velli, Aadi Chevai, Aadi Pooram, Deepavali, Navaratri etc....
We draw this kolam with four lines, to make it a square...and expand the kolam with our creative ideas such as lotus motif, or curves, dots. We also draw Kaavi as borders.

I have used rice flour to draw lines of padi kolam. We can expand our Padi Kolam with curves, strokes, stripes, flowers, lotus, Suzi etc...

Padi Kolam / Nallu Moolai Kolam
A very simple, Nallu Moolai Kolam with rangoli colour's. The Nallu Moolai Kolam with bright colours,for Women's Day Special.
Padi / Nallu Moolai, is a traditional kolam drawn for any festival / an auspicious occasion in Iyer / Iyengar family.
To make it special I have given colour's of my mother, Grandmother & mother- in-laws favourite sari's.
Such as:
In the middle
Red colour- My Mother's 9 yards 'Koora Podavai' or 'Wedding Saree'.
Green colour - with a simple border is a 'Kanjeevaram Pattu' saree.
Orange colour - This orange with 'Palum pazham' is my Grandmother's favourite.
Pink colour - My Mother-in-law's Mysore Silk saree, which is very near to her heart.
Lavender with Blue colour - My Mother-in-law's 9 yards Mysore Silk saree.. which she always loved with very simple self border.

Padi Kolam - Thiruvatherai Special
A very simple and easy Padi Kolam for Thiruvatherai.
Thiruvatherai is a Hindu festival, which is celebrated in Tamil Nadu and Kerela. In the month of Margazhi or Dhanur masam, Thiruvatherai Natshataram.... which is popularly known as 'Arudhra Drashanam'. 'Thiruvatherai' means 'a sacred wave', which is created by Lord Siva. It is a women's festival. On this day Thiruvatherai Kali and Ezhi than Kuzhambu / 7 Curry Kootu is prepared and offered to Lord Siva.

Simple Padi Kolam
Karthigai Deepam is festival of lights.
In every Iyer / Iyengar family Padi Kolam is drawn. In this 'Karthigai Maasam' or month we light diyas or deepam in our 'Vasa Padi' (Entrance of our house).
Today I am sharing a Simple Padi Kolam for Sarvalaya Deepam.

Padi Kolam / Nallu Moolai Kolam
Karthigai Deepam is a Hindu festival. In South Indian it is celebrated in the mid of November - mid of December, which we call as 'Karthigai Maasam'.
In this month we put Special Kolams in front of the house and decorate with Deepam or Diyas.
A special Kolam of Padi / Nallu Moolai Kolam is drawn for Barani Deepam, Karthigai Deepam and Sarvalaya Deepam.
Today I am sharing a Padi Kolam for 'Barani Deepam', I have used rangoli colour's in my Nallu Moolai Kolam, and decorated with Deepam.

Padi Kolam - Tamil New Year!
Tamil New Year is called as Puthandu. It is celebrated on the first day of Chitharai Masam (Tamil month)
I have shared a padi kolam with four lines in all the four sides to form a square. We can expand our mana kolam with our imaginations like drawing curves, lotus, circles according to our creativity.
With the touch of 'Kaavi' the beauty of Kolam is enhanced. Without kaavi padi kolam is incomplete.
